Abstract
Infertility, a condition affecting the male or female reproductive system, is characterized by the inability to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse. According to a World Health Organization report, it affects one in six people of reproductive age at some point in their lives. Given its prevalence and significance, the WHO has published the first Global Guideline for the Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Infertility. The Guideline includes 40 evidence-based recommendations to improve access to and quality of care, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infertility through cost-effective interventions and integration into national health systems. In addition, the guideline emphasizes ensuring ongoing psychosocial support for those affected and encourage countries to adapt the recommendations to local contexts, adopting comprehensive, rights-based approaches to sexual and reproductive health.
